Computer Career Training Companies In The UK – Thoughts

Good for you! Discovering this piece proves you must be pondering over your options, and if you’re considering retraining that means you’ve taken it further than almost everybody else. Can you believe that just one in ten of us are satisfied and happy at work – but the majority will take no corrective action. Why not liberate yourself and do something – you have the rest of your life to enjoy it.

When considering retraining, it’s essential to initially know what you want and don’t want from the career you’re hoping to qualify for. Be sure that you would be more satisfied before much time and effort is spent changing the direction of your life. We recommend looking at the end goal first, to make an informed decision:

* Is it your preference to work in isolation or do you find company is an essential criteria for you?

* Which criteria’s are important to you with regard to the industry you’ll work in?

* Would you like this to be the last time you’ll need to re-qualify?

* Do you believe that your chosen retraining will make you employable, and have the ability to keep you in work until retirement?

The most significant market sector in this country to tick all of the above boxes is the IT industry. There’s a need for more knowledgeable people in the industry, just check out any jobsite and there’ll be a long list. But don’t think it’s all techie people gazing towards theirscreens every day – it’s much more diverse than that. Most of workers in this sector are people of average intelligence, and they have very interesting and well paid jobs.

Your training program should always include the very latest Microsoft (or any other key organisation’s) accredited exam simulation and preparation packages. Don’t go for training programs depending on non-accredited exam preparation questions. The type of questions asked can be quite different – and sometimes this can be a real headache when the proper exam time arrives. Ensure that you request some practice exams that will allow you to check your knowledge whenever you need to. Mock exams help to build your confidence – then you won’t be quite so nervous at the actual exam.

Often, trainers provide piles of reference manuals and workbooks. It’s not a very interesting way to learn and not ideal for studying effectively. Long-term memory is enhanced when we use multiple senses – learning experts have been saying this for as long as we can remember.

Study programs now come in disc format, where everything is taught on your PC. Utilising the latest video technology, you can watch instructors demonstrating how to do something, and then practice yourself – via the interactive virtual lab’s. You’ll definitely want a look at some courseware examples from your training provider. You’ll want to see demo’s from instructors, slideshows and fully interactive skills-lab’s.

Many companies provide just online versions of their training packages; and while this is acceptable much of the time, think what will happen if you lose your internet access or you get a slow connection speed. A safer solution is the provision of actual CD or DVD ROMs that will solve that problem.

It would be wonderful to believe that our careers will remain secure and our work futures are protected, but the growing likelihood for the majority of jobs throughout the United Kingdom right now is that security just isn’t there anymore. Of course, a fast growing sector, where staff are in constant demand (because of an enormous shortfall of properly qualified staff), provides a market for real job security.

Reviewing the IT sector, a recent e-Skills investigation showed a 26 percent deficit in trained staff. Or, to put it differently, this highlights that Great Britain can only find 3 certified professionals for every 4 jobs available today. This glaring idea underpins an urgent requirement for more technically certified Information Technology professionals around the country. Undoubtedly, it really is the very best time to consider retraining into the computer industry.

The sometimes daunting task of getting your first IT job is often made easier by some companies, via a Job Placement Assistance programme. But don’t place too much emphasis on it – it’s quite easy for training companies to overplay it. At the end of the day, the massive skills shortage in the UK is what will make you attractive to employers.

Ideally you should have help with your CV and interview techniques though; additionally, we would recommend everybody to work on polishing up their CV the day they start training – don’t put it off till you’ve finished your exams. You’ll often find that you’ll secure your initial position while you’re still a student (occasionally right at the beginning). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile (and it’s not being looked at by employers) then you’re not even going to be known about! Generally, you’ll receive quicker service from an independent and specialised local recruitment consultancy than you’ll get from a course provider’s recruitment division, because they’ll know the area better.

A big aggravation for some training providers is how hard people are prepared to work to become certified, but how un-prepared they are to work on getting the role they’ve trained for. Don’t give up when the best is yet to come.

A Few Thoughts on Self Storage

By now everyone is familiar with the term self storage. It refers to any one of a number of pay by the month drive up storage facilities for storing common  non perishable items. However; if you are considering renting from one of these storage facilities, there are a few things that you will want to bear in mind.

Rather Pricey By the Square Foot

For one thing they are not cheap when considering the amount  of square footage that you get for your dollar. In fact, you are going to most likely pay more per square foot of floor space at your common monthly rental facility then you would for an equal amount of floor space in a rented home or apartment. So don’t think by any means that you are getting a great deal.

Still A Good Deal

However; on the flip-side, there is no deposited or credit check required and you can be in and done in about ten minutes. Also, while the square footage is costly there are smaller units that can run you as little as $60 per month in some areas of the country. Also there can be no doubt that the 24 hour security that self storage facilities offer is top notch.

Don’t Scrimp on Your Lock

Before you begin packing though, there are a number of unwritten rules that you should be aware of. The first rule is that standard padlocks aren’t as secure as you might think. Not only can they be easily picked with tools that can be purchased online but they are also vulnerable to multiple keys.

A Few Things to Consider

This means that you are going to want to buy one of the those big heavy, hardened locks that they will most likely have for sale at the front desk. Another rule if you have items such as furniture that can be damaged by rodents or insects such as ants is to buy some poison for both and put it out inside your storage unit. Also, remember that your storage unit is not climate controlled and is vulnerable to weather changes

My Thoughts regarding the yet to be released Asus EEE Keyboard PC

Lets first begin with its specs, it’s A full computer built into a QWERTY keyboard, as well as Ultrawideband HDMI and WiFi b/g/n, it also has a 5-inch touchscreen for shortcuts, media browsing and use as a virtual mouse.
Hardware wise the EEE Keyboard PC cosists of an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of memory and either 16GB or 32GB SSD storage, I have read that their may be a lower model released, I am unsure about the differences between models as of yet, I guess we will have to wait until Asus Actually release their EEE Desktop PC before we will know for sure.

From what I have seen and read, using the built-in 5″ touchscreen you have access to a menu in which you can access calendar, photo gallery, media player and an internet browser, there are also simple usability apps such as a calculator, alarm clock and system info.
On the back the all-in-one “pc-in-a-keyboard” you will find at least two USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, wired ethernet and audio in/out (as well as having an integrated microphone and speakers).

Now I’m pretty impressed with what i have read and what i have seen thus far, However there is one thing that has my brain going 100 Miles an hour, I am not sure if ASUS have decided upon a specific OS they plan to release with the KeyBoard PC, however there are videos and demo’s you can find on youtube that show it running with Windows XP, and also another Showing the Asus EEE Keyboard PC running with Intel’s Moblin Netbook OS, this is the configuration i would prefer to see, I can’t really complain That much about Windows XP, however such a device should really be using either its own modified version of linux or a cut down version of linux, Which in my opinion would be a more sensible choice.

However i do not work for ASUS, Nor do i get a say in what OS they will install on their EEE Keyboard PC, so we will have to wait until Asus either release the EEE Keyboard PC, or atleast release another statement regarding the release of the product.

I have been a bit frustrated with peoples comments i have seen around regarding the EEE Keyboard PC, the main one that i have notices is people saying things similar to “Commodore International did this in the eighties, PC’s inside Keyboards aren’t new, ASUS just found a way to “reinvent” the idea.. Whats Next? Are ASUS going to “reinvent” the Floppy disc?”.

I understand where such comments are coming from, Yes Commodore International did release a computer back in 1982 which was built into the keyboard, and it was rather successful (i believe over 30 million sales) but you cannot compare that to the Asus EEE Keyboard PC in any way shape or form, im sorry but you simply cannot compare a 1.8KG horrid Creame box that was over 40cm wide 20cm long and 8cm’s high (Not to mention the 1mhz processor and 64k of ram) to a nice sleek looking keyboard that isn’t too “out there” or “huge” and comes with a 1.6Ghz Atom processor 1GB of Ram and all the other features.

I for one cannot wait to get my hands on one of these babies, will surely come in hand around the home and office, i might even look at rolling these out to my staff aswell as they always seem to run out of desk space due to the oversize desktop pcs they are currently using.

Read the Original Article & Much more at my ASUS EEE Keyboard PC Site.

Once the Asus EEE Keyboard PC is released i will be purchasing one straight away so i can give my readers a proper full review of the product.

Careers Courses for IT – Thoughts

Training for your CompTIA A+ covers 4 different sectors – you’ll have to qualify in just two sectors to be competent in A+. For this reason, most colleges limit their course to 2 of the 4 sectors. To us, this is selling you short – sure, you can pass an exam, but knowing about the others will give you a distinct advantage in your working life, where you’ll need to know about all of them. This is why you deserve training in the whole course.

Once on the CompTIA A+, you will develop an understanding of how to work in antistatic conditions and build and fix computers. You’ll also cover fault finding and diagnostics, through both hands-on and remote access. Should you be thinking of taking care of computer networks, you should add CompTIA Network+ to your A+ course. This qualification will put you in a position to command a more senior job role. Alternatively, you may prefer the networking qualifications from Microsoft, i.e. MCP, MCSA MCSE.

When was the last time you considered the security of your job? For most people, this issue only becomes a talking point when something dramatic happens to shake us. But in today’s marketplace, the lesson often learned too late is that our job security doesn’t really exist anymore, for nearly everyone now. Security can now only exist via a rapidly growing market, driven forward by a lack of trained workers. It’s this shortage that creates the right setting for a higher level of market-security – a more attractive situation all round.

Reviewing the Information Technology (IT) business, a key e-Skills investigation highlighted a twenty six percent shortfall of skilled workers. This shows that for every four jobs in existence throughout the computer industry, there are only 3 trained people to fill that need. This single fact alone is the backbone of why the UK requires a lot more people to become part of the IT industry. Surely, it really is a fabulous time to consider retraining into IT.

It’s likely that you’re a practical sort of person – the ‘hands-on’ person. If you’re like us, the world of book-reading and classrooms would be considered as a last resort, but you’d hate it. So look for on-screen interactive learning packages if learning from books is not your thing. If we’re able to involve all our senses in the learning process, our results will often be quite spectacular.

Courses are now available in disc format, so everything is learned directly from your own PC. Through video streaming, you are able to see your instructors showing you how something is done, followed by your chance to practice – in a virtual lab environment. It makes sense to see some of the typical study materials provided before you sign on the dotted line. The minimum you should expect would be videoed instructor demonstrations and a variety of audio-visual and interactive sections.

Choose CD or DVD ROM based materials where possible. You’re then protected from broadband ‘downtime’ or slow-speeds.

One useful service that many training companies provide is job placement assistance. The service is put in place to assist your search for your first position. Having said that, occasionally too much is made of this feature, because it’s relatively easy for any focused and well taught person to get a job in IT – as there is such a shortage of qualified personnel.

Work on polishing up your CV right away however (advice and support for this should come from your course provider). Don’t wait for when you’re ready to start work. You’ll often find that you’ll secure your first role while you’re still a student (sometimes when you’ve only just got going). If your CV doesn’t show your latest training profile (and it hasn’t been posted on jobsites) then you don’t stand a chance! If you’d like to keep travelling time and costs to a minimum, then you may well find that a specialist locally based employment agency might be more appropriate than some national concern, for they’re far more likely to know the jobs that are going locally.

Fundamentally, as long as you put the same commitment into securing a position as into training, you’re not going to hit many challenges. A number of people curiously spend hundreds of hours on their course materials and then just stop once they’ve passed their exams and would appear to think that businesses will just discover them.

Have a conversation with a capable consultant and you’ll be surprised by their many awful tales of students who’ve been sold completely the wrong course for them. Only deal with a skilled professional who digs deep to find out what’s right for you – not for their retirement-fund! It’s very important to locate the very best place to start for you. Remember, if you have some relevant qualifications that are related, then you can sometimes expect to start at a different point than someone new to the industry. It’s usual to start with some basic Microsoft package and Windows skills first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make the learning curve a much more gentle.

CompTIA Network Plus Networking Training – Thoughts

Computer and network support workers are increasingly in demand in Great Britain, as institutions have come to depend upon their knowledge and capacity to solve problems. Because of the complex nature of technological advances, greater numbers of qualified workers are needed to dedicate themselves to the smooth operation of functions we rely on.

Make sure you don’t get caught-up, as a lot of students can, on the certification itself. Your training isn’t about getting a plaque on your wall; you’re training to become commercially employable. Stay focused on what it is you want to achieve. Never let yourself become part of that group that choose a course which looks like it could be fun – and end up with a plaque on the wall for a job they hate.

Spend some time thinking about earning potential and the level of your ambition. This will influence which precise certifications will be required and what industry will expect from you in return. Our recommendation would be to look for advice and guidance from an experienced professional before making your final decision on a particular training course, so you’re sure from the outset that the specific package will give the skill-set required for your career choice.

Throw out a salesperson who offers any particular course without an in-depth conversation to gain understanding of your current abilities and experience level. They should be able to select from a wide-enough choice of training products so they’re able to solve your training issues. Don’t forget, if you’ve got any accreditation or direct-experience, then it’s not unreasonable to expect to pick-up at a different starting-point to someone who is new to the field. Always consider starting with some basic PC skills training first. It will usually make the learning curve a little less steep.

Discovering job security in the current climate is incredibly rare. Businesses can drop us out of the workplace at a moment’s notice – whenever it suits. But a fast growing sector, where staff are in constant demand (because of a big shortfall of commercially certified workers), opens the possibility of proper job security.

Offering the computer market as an example, a key e-Skills survey brought to light a skills gap around Great Britain of over 26 percent. That means for every four jobs in existence across IT, there are barely three qualified workers to fill that need. This disturbing idea clearly demonstrates the urgent need for more technically trained Information Technology professionals in the country. In actuality, acquiring professional IT skills during the next year or two is very likely the greatest career choice you could ever make.

Full support is of the utmost importance – locate a good company providing 24×7 full access, as not opting for this kind of support could put a damper on the speed you move through things. Many only provide email support (too slow), and telephone support is usually to a call-centre which will chat nicely with you for 5 minutes to ask what the issue is and then simply send an email to an instructor – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, when it suits them. This is not a lot of use if you’re sitting there confused over an issue and only have a specific time you can study.

Top training providers tend to use an internet-based round-the-clock service involving many support centres from around the world. You get an easy to use environment which seamlessly selects the best facility available no matter what time of day it is: Support available as-and-when you want it. Always pick a training school that is worth purchasing from. Only true live 24×7 round-the-clock support delivers what is required.
